The JFK 50, in Washington County, VA, was inspired by John F. Kennedy’s support of Teddy Rosevelt’s assertion, that to remain commissioned, military officers should be able to travel 50 Miles, on foot, in less than 20 hours. This lead to the first JFK 50 in 1963 which is one of the oldest Ultra Marathons in the United States.
This is a great race for first time ultra runners; it is in beautiful countryside, there are many aid stations, and not as much combined elevation change.
