JFK 50 Mile

The JFK 50, in Washington County, MD, was inspired by John F. Kennedy’s support of Teddy Rosevelt’s assertion, that to remain commissioned, military officers should be able to travel 50 Miles, on foot, in less than 20 hours. This lead to the first JFK 50 in 1963 which is one of the oldest Ultra Marathons in the United States.

This is a great race for first time ultra runners; it is in beautiful countryside, there are many aid stations, and not as much combined elevation change.

    typo on http://therunscout.com/category/montrail/, it says
Washington County, MA….but should be VA. And since I live in Virginia, now I *want* to run this. 2011 is coming soon!
Thanks again for all your hard work; I found your site looking for read-aheads for the NFEC Half Marathon next month. Great flythroughs!

Thanks for checking us out Scott and good luck at the Endurance Challenge. I’ll be there all day on Saturday. If yoiu are around the race that day, look for The Endurables, our local running club, that train for the race and are have a pretty good group of people…like most trail runners…you’ll see our t-shirts, ask around for me..they’ll point you in the right direction.
